National Muslim Organization Calls For Resignation of New USAID Religious Freedom Advisor With History of Anti-Islam Comments

Washington, D.C.- Emgage Action, a national advocacy organization for Muslim Americans, is disheartened by Islamophobic comments made by USAID’s new Religious Freedom Advisor, Mark Kevin Lloyd. The organization calls for his resignation.

While formerly serving as the Trump campaign’s Virginia field director, he shared posts calling Islam “a barbaric cult.” As of Tuesday, posts on his Facebook accusing Barack Obama of having ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, and claiming that those that believe Islam don’t understand history, were still public and viewable.

“How could one properly serve as USAID’s Religious Freedom Advisor while espousing a horrifyingly Islamophobic track record? Frankly, these comments should have been considered carefully during Lloyd’s hiring process. We are calling for Lloyd’s resignation–because Islam cannot be the exception when assessing one’s ability to advise on religious freedoms for a government agency.” – Wa’el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action

Emgage Action is a national Muslim American advocacy organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C., and state chapters in Michigan, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New York.
