Emgage Florida Florida Legislative and Policy Director

About Emgage:

Emgage is a nonprofit and nonpartisan civic education and mobilization organization dedicated to strengthening the engagement of Muslim Americans with the political process and their elected leaders. Our programs include voter education, voter engagement, community outreach, and leadership development. We have chapters in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, and Texas.

Legislative and Policy Director:

Responsible for researching and identifying the primary legislative and policy priorities of the Florida chapter in coordination with the Florida Executive Director, Florida Committee Chair, and National Legislative Director. Is the full time representative of Emgage in Tallahassee during legislative sessions and maintains contact with elected officials throughout the state year round. Additionally responsible for the administration and coordination of the PAC process and materials. Coordinates and assists with other Florida chapter initiatives as necessary. 

Job Duties:

  • Researches and identifies primary legislative and policy priorities of the Florida chapter. 
  • Works extensively with the National Legislative Director, Executive Director, and Florida, and Florida Committee Chair.
  • Full time representation of Emgage in Tallahassee during legislative session.
  • Primary contact for elected officials of all levels statewide.
  • Provides weekly and monthly legislative updates to the staff, state committee, policy board, and broader community.
  • Serves as the primary contact for Florida Muslim Capitol Day.
  • Hosts and participaties in town halls, candidate forums, and other community events.
  • Administers and coordinates the PAC process, including the creation and dissemination of candidate questionnaires, organizing candidate interviews, and producing all PAC materials.
  • Works with and builds relationships with partner organizations around the state and country.
  • Attends monthly C3 table and C4 table meetings.
  • Assists with chapter events including setting up online registration, flyers, overseeing RSVP, event marketing and distribution of materials etc. 
  • Performs clerical and office duties as needed, including some data entry and record maintenance. 
  • Engages in educational opportunities as needed
  • Additional duties as needed by the Emgage Florida chapter.

Required:

Political Science or Policy Background; Public Speaking Experience; Self-Driven; Excellent Customer Care Skills; Exceptional Communication Skills; Strong Writer; Ability to Maintain a Strict Level of Confidence; Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs; Attention to Detail; Strong Problem Solving Skills; Excellent Organizational Skills; Highly Motivated and Ability to Prioritize Efficiently; 

Preferred:

Professional Appearance; Excellent Typing Skills; Ability to Work Alone or As Part of a Team; Enthusiastic and Reliable; Knowledge of Basic Office Management Procedures; Reliable, Previous Experience in a Related Field Preferred; and Ability to Engage with Others on a Regular Basis,  Experience with EveryAction and/or Canva software; Loves Customer Service. 

Compensation: Position is a full time, salaried position. Competitive salary commensurate with experience offered. Future growth opportunities with the chapter and national organization are also possible based on performance and availability. Position requires statewide travel (must own a car) and work on weekends and holidays.
