Emgage condemns vandalism of Philadelphia masjid
PHILADELPHIA: Emgage was dismayed to hear about the vandalism of Masjidullah in Philadelphia, PA, that occurred on Feb. 24.
“I am shaken by this attempt at intimidating our community,” said Salima Suswell, Emgage National Senior Advisor and Emgage Pennsylvania Executive Director. “Masjidullah is very near to my heart; it is considered a safe haven for the community. We will not allow this incident to instill fear, but rather reignite our service and unify us all.”
Emgage has a longstanding and close relationship with Masjidullah. Suswell, a member of Masjidullah, regularly works with the leadership and community of Masjidullah. Emgage has hosted its Emerging Leaders program and planning sessions for the Muslim Civic Table there. Masjidullah’s imam was recently appointed as Emgage Pennsylvania’s religious advisor and has served on Emgage’s African American Policy Advisory Committee since it launched three years ago.
“This is an unacceptable act of Islamophobia and hatred,” said Wa’el Alzayat, Emgage CEO. “No one should be made to feel in danger at their place of worship. We urge local law enforcement to investigate this with diligence and to bring justice.”
