Emgage Action Celebrates Muslim American Turnout in Georgia Elections

WASHINGTON, DC – Emgage Action celebrates Muslim American voter turnout in the Georgia runoff elections, and the victory of Sen. Raphael Warnock.

“We are thrilled to see Sen. Raphael Warnock’s victory in Georgia, securing a Democratic majority in the Senate. The Muslim American community came together to help cement this win. Senator Warnock’s stances on health care, common sense gun reform, and expanding voting rights represent just a few key issues Americans need in this upcoming session. We are excited to work with the upcoming Congressional session to support issues that are important to American communities,” said Mohamed Gula, Emgage Action’s National Organizing Director. 

Ahead of this election, Emgage was pleased to co-host a Muslim Get Out The Vote virtual rally on Sunday. The event featured Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. André Carson, MN Attorney General Keith Ellison, GA State Senator-Elect Nabilah Islam, GA State Senator Sheikh Rahman, GA State Representative Ruwa Romman, and GA State Representative Furooq Mughal. Partners included CAIR Georgia, Georgia Muslim Voter Project, Majlis Ashura of Metro Atlanta, The Table, and Voices of Muslims.

“Our destination is making sure our children are always unapologetic and never afraid to be Muslim.” said Rep. Rashida Tlaib at the event.

“Yes it’s important to talk about what’s happening in Yemen. Yes it’s important to talk about what’s happening to Uyghur Muslims. Yes it’s important to talk about what’s happening in Tigray, in East Africa. But it’s also important to have commitment to what’s happening in the United States… and we do that through forums like these, to show that our numbers are increasing in American political processes,” stated Rep. André Carson.
