Voting FAQs for the June 7, 2025, Runoffs
- Why is there a runoff? What triggers a runoff election in Texas?
A few weeks ago, in May, there were local elections across Texas. In general, candidates needed to receive over 50% of the vote in order to win their municipal elections. In races where no candidate won over 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters have proceeded to a runoff election to determine who wins the seat. - Who can vote in the runoff election?
Any registered Texas voter with a runoff in their area can vote. You do not need to have voted in the May elections to vote in the runoff elections now.
