Adham Sahloul is the founder and Senior Advisor of the North Star Policy Initiative (NSPI). He was previously a Special Advisor in the Biden Administration, where he served at the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Agency for International Development, and was previously a consultant at the U.S. Department of State. He is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) and is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is an officer in the United States Navy Reserve.
Adham was previously a national board member of Emgage Foundation (2021-2022). In 2020, New America named him a rising U.S. national security leader. His commentary has been published in Foreign Affairs, War On The Rocks, The Diplomat, Al-Majalla, Lawfare, Axios, and the Chicago Sun-Times, among other outlets. He served as a foreign policy advisor to Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign as well as the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign. He holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the 2025 recipient of the University of Illinois Young Alumni Award.
