JOB TITLE: MI Organizing Associate 

LOCATION: Detroit, MI| Hybrid 

SUMMARY OF POSITION 

Emgage Foundation, Inc. is a national civic education and engagement organization for Muslim Americans that is headquartered in Washington, D.C. with chapters in seven states. The MI Organizing Associate will be at the forefront of our efforts to mobilize and engage diverse communities in MI. This role offers the opportunity to create impactful community connections, lead grassroots voter mobilization initiatives and drive measurable results when advancing Emgage’s mission. This is a hybrid position based in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to recruit, train, and manage volunteers within assigned regions.
  • Grow volunteer relationships and capacity at the state and local levels to advance organizing work.
  • Oversee organizing campaigns including voter registration, voter turnout (canvassing, door knocking, phone-banking, text banking) and GOTV.
  •  Manage organizing software such as MiniVan, GetThru, etc.
  • Utilize data-driven tools and strategies to track progress, identify areas of opportunity, and optimize GOTV efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure alignment and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Under the leadership of the MI State Director, implement a community outreach plan to help spread awareness of Emgage’s mission and program.
  • Build relationships with Muslim communities, community leaders, stakeholders, and local allied organizations to foster support and collaboration for Emgage’s work.
  • Work with the State Director to conduct community outreach in MI, including tabling at Mosques, festivals, workshops, town halls, etc. and participate in activities that promote social interaction with others in the community.
  • Support state operations with Community Events, Workshops, Gala, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 
  • Years of Experience: 1-3 years of experience. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to create meaningful connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  •  Self-starter with the ability to spot problems and take action.
  • Ability to critically solve problems and make decisions in fast-paced and dynamic environments.
  • Flexibility to travel extensively and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Must have a car and a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to inspire and mobilize others.
  • Passion for social and political change, with a commitment to advancing Emgage’s mission.
  • Interest in and ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage your schedule and work with minimal supervision.
  •  Technological proficiency in data management, analysis, and accountability practices with Voter Access Network (VAN) and MiniVAN, Excel, and ASANA.
  •  Previous experience in campaign organizing, field operations, or community outreach is a plus.

SALARY AND BENEFITS 

Salary: $50K – $60K
