EMGAGE CALLS ON THE SENATE TO OPPOSE CONFIRMATION OF JAY PATRICK MURRAY AS U.N. DIPLOMAT DUE TO HIS ANTI-MUSLIM HATE!

Washington D.C., December 20, 2017 … Emgage, the nation’s largest civic education and engagement organization for Muslim Americans is urging the U.S. Senate to oppose the confirmation of Jay Patrick Murray for a diplomatic position at the United Nations, due to his well documented and public Islamophobic and bigoted views. You can read the full letter here.

Murray, has posted numerous messages on his Facebook account praising Milo Yiannopoulos, a racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic provocateur.  Murray is now being considered for Alternate U.S. Representative to the United Nations for Special Political Affairs and to serve as an Alternate U.S. Representative to sessions of the UN General Assembly.

“As a former public servant at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations I am disappointed by this nomination. We should be sending our best men and women to represent us to the world, not those who uphold extremist views and beliefs,” said Emgage CEO Wa’el Alzayat, who served as Senior Policy Advisor to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power.

Murray demonized the entire Muslim community of Brussels when he claimed in a published column that “At worst they’re planning to kill their infidel neighbors, at best they protect and harbor those who are doing the killing.” He has also described Muslim refugee migration to Europe as “an invasion.” In various social media postings, including  on Facebook, Murray praised Yiannopoulos and shared material with disturbing anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Emgage is a civic education and engagement organization dedicated to empowering Muslim Americans to combat Islamophobia and xenophobia while promoting an equitable and tolerant society.
