Emgage Florida celebrates Eid off for students

MIAMI: Following extensive efforts on behalf of the thousands of affected school children and a proposal from Emgage, COSMOS, the local Muslim Students Association, and the South Florida Muslim Federation, Miami Dade County public schools have approved a teacher planning day on Eid ul-Fitr, effectively giving students that day off for its 2023-2024 school year.

Emgage fought for Eid to be recognized in Broward County, and celebrated this victory in May. Eid is now recognized in public schools in three Florida counties.

“This historic achievement couldn’t have been done without the participation of supporters like you and the Miami Dade County School Staff and Board,” stated Khurrum Wahid, Acting Chairperson of Emgage Florida. “I want to share a special thanks to School Board Member Lucia Baez-Geller. I thank the many people who played a part – community members, religious leaders, stakeholders, parents, students – as it truly shows the power we have when we work together for the common good.”
